About this course
This virtual, instructor-led PEC Pipeline Basic Orientation course will provide students with the required general knowledge of pipeline projects as well as regulatory requirements and safe working practices expected when working with pipelines.
This PEC course meets SafeLandUSA and the Gold Shovel Standard certification requirements.
This course will be delivered remotely, using instructor-led online learning and and is accredited by SafeLandUSA™ and SafeGulf.

Students must have a computer/laptop with a web cam to participate. Students may not participate via phone.
Upon successful completion of this virtual training course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of regulatory requirements and the steps to be taken to identify and avoid common hazards associated with work on pipelines.
This virtual PEC Basic Pipeline course will cover the following topics:
- Regulations and Standards
- Hazard recognition and avoidance
- General workplace safety topics
- Handling of hazardous materials
- Emergency situations
- Maintenance, use and care for pipeline-related tools and equipment
- Environmental concerns
Students will be required to successfully complete an exam following each training module with a minimum passing score of 80% in order to continue to the next section of the course.
Upon successful completion of the full course, students will be issued the PEC ID card.
This virtual PEC course is designed for midstream pipeline workers and pipeline contractors in the oil and gas industry.
How will I receive instructions for my virtual instructor led course?
For virtual instructor led courses, the students will receive an email directly from the instructor advising them how to log in to the course and what materials to bring if any. We ask that any students who do not receive these instructions contact us during business hours at least one business day prior to the course start date. When will I/my employee receive joining instructions?
Joining instructions can be provided anytime immediately following the course booking up until the night before your class. In many cases, this is dependent on the instructor’s schedule and are typically sent around their existing class schedules. We ask that any students who do not receive their joining instructions contact us during business hours at least one business day prior to the course start date. What happens if I/my employee fails the course?
