NYC 32 Hour DOB Rigging Supervisor Course
Description
This NYC 32 Hour DOB Rigging Supervisor course is a requirement for an individual who is not a licensed rigger or a designated foreman of a licensed rigger prior to supervising the hoisting or lowering of articles on the outside of a building in New York City.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Supervise rigging operations
- Inspect all rigging equipment
- Recognize hazards associated with rigging in construction
- Ensure that workers are utilizing safe rigging practices in daily operations
- Ensure that fall protection methods are followed
Agenda
The NYC 32 Hour DOB Rigging Supervisor course will cover the following mandatory topics:
- Introduction to cranes and derricks
- Crane and rigging accidents
- OSHA 1926 Subpart CC overview
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Material handling, storage, and housekeeping
- Fall protection
- NYC building code and agency overview
- Inspection of cranes, ropes, and operator responsibilities
- Maintenance and repair of cranes and ropes
- Plan reading
- Hazards of operating in a dense urban environment including power lines and high wind hazards
- Restrictions against hoisting over pedestrians, traffic, and adjoining buildings
- Shut-down procedures
- Communication while rigging (radios, hand signals, and flags.)
- Reading load charts, lifting and lowering loads
- Safety protocol and emergency procedures
- Crane assembly, jumping, and disassembly
Assessment
Attendees are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on exercises and the final course exam. Students must pass the hands-on and written assessment with a score of 70% or higher.
Who Should Attend
This training is intended for construction foremen, riggers, safety supervisors, rigging inspectors, and personnel in charge of rigging operations not hired directly by a licensed rigger.
